What Is a Memory Pillow?

A Single Garment Turned into Something That Lasts

A memory pillow takes one meaningful garment, a parent's shirt, a child's favorite top, a jersey with a name on the back, and turns it into a pillow you can put on a chair, a bed, or a couch. It is present in the room every day without being locked away in a box.

These are some of the most accessible keepsakes I make. They work as standalone gifts, as add-ons to a larger memory quilt order, or as part of a set for a family who wants everyone to have something of their own from the same collection of clothing.

Each pillow starts with a free consultation. We talk through which garment to use, how to position the design, and what the finished piece should look and feel like.

What I Work With

One Garment Can Be Enough

Almost any woven garment with a graphic or meaningful fabric panel can become a pillow. Here are some common starting points.

Dress Shirts & Button-Downs

A parent's everyday shirts, still folded and waiting, finally turned into something you can use.

Sports Jerseys

A name and number on the back of a jersey, centered on a pillow that sits where the family gathers.

Band & Concert Tees

That one shirt from a show you will never forget, front and center on a pillow, right where it belongs.

College & School Shirts

The shirt from orientation, the first day of high school, the senior year, made into something that sticks around.

Uniforms

Military, first responder, and work uniforms turned into a pillow that holds the weight of what that service meant.

Baby & Children's Clothing

A onesie, a tiny first outfit, made into a pillow that stays in the family long after the clothes have been outgrown.

Often Ordered Together

Part of a Complete Keepsake Set

Many families combine a memory pillow with a memory quilt, a memory bear, or both, all made from the same collection of clothing. Each piece is its own keepsake. Together, they tell the full story.

Questions

Memory Pillow FAQ

Most woven garments work well, t-shirts, dress shirts, flannel, denim, jerseys, blouses, and similar fabrics. The garment is used as the pillow face, so the larger and more intact the graphic or fabric panel, the better. Delicate or very stretchy fabrics may need additional backing.

Usually one garment is enough for a single pillow. The front of the garment typically provides the pillow face, with complementary fabric used for the back. If you have a specific look in mind, like using both front and back of the same shirt, we can talk through that at the consultation.

Yes. If you have multiple garments, or if there is enough usable fabric from a single item, I can make several pillows from the same collection. This is a popular option for families who want each sibling or family member to receive their own keepsake.

Standard memory pillows are approximately 16 by 16 inches, which suits most garment graphics well. Other sizes may be available depending on the garment. We will confirm the best size for your specific project during the consultation.

Yes. Many clients order pillows, bears, and quilts from the same set of garments. It is a natural combination, the quilt goes on the bed, the pillow on a chair, the bear in someone's hands. All from the same clothes, all lasting.

You can drop off garments in person by appointment at CreateATL at 900 Murphy Ave SW, Atlanta, GA 30310. If you are not local, you can ship them directly. I will provide shipping instructions after your consultation.
