Creating this AKA quilt was a special challenge (and treat) for me because I quilted the whole thing with intricate ivy leaves. Tshirt quilts also present the unique challenge of having to balance different-sized shirts into a grid. The owner of this quilt gave me some great insight into how she wanted her shirts arranged.
Founded on January 15, 1908, at Howard University in Washington, D.C., AKA has grown into a globally recognized and respected institution dedicated to uplifting women and making a positive impact on society.
AKA was established by a group of visionary women led by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle, who aimed to create a support network for African-American women pursuing higher education and professional careers.
